Wesleyan welcomed 183 graduate students to campus on Aug. 28. The students met one another and mingled with faculty advisors during a picnic at Exley Science Center.
Of the 183 new graduate and Ph.D candidates, 53 are master’s degree candidates, 37 are pursuing degrees in the sciences—astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, mathematics and computer sciences, molecular biology and biochemistry and physics—while 16 are studying music composition.
There also are 17 new BA/MA students, who received a BA from Wesleyan and are staying on an extra year to complete a master’s. There are 130 Ph.D candidates, including 104 in the sciences and 26 in ethnomusicology.
Additionally, there are nine foreign language teaching assistants, two German exchange students, and three writing program fellows who fall under the administrative umbrella of graduate student services. Overall, about half of Wesleyan’s graduate students come from the U.S., while the other half hail from 30 different countries around the world.
