Bekkie Wright ’85 aimed to complete her goal on Oct. 24, 2012: An under-4-hour marathon in all 50 states. “Bekkie Wright’s devotion to marathons goes far beyond 26.2 miles. It led her to a husband she met, fittingly, at a marathon. It has taken her to all 50 states to run, including battling Nor’easters and blizzard-like conditions.…
“She heard about the Newman Marathon from a friend who ran it last year. So when she was trying to find the final piece to the 50-state puzzle, Mason City seemed like the perfect fit for a woman who just turned 50 and has more than 100 marathons to her credit.
“‘She said everything about it was great,’ Wright said of the conversation with a friend that led her to Sunday’s race. ‘She said the course was great, the people were great and she would recommend it to anybody.’”
